There is no better way to promote your health club than to show off your most successful members
Media loves success stories, especially ones that involve someone overcoming incredible odds. You probably know someone like this in your club; Someone who has lost 50 pounds, someone who has reversed the effects of Diabetes, someone who has turned their life around, someone who has overcome a life threatening injury or illness, someone who simply feels better and enjoys life more. You have walking success stories everywhere throughout your gym!
Some you may be aware of, others you have no idea. For now, let's call your fitness facility “JonesTown Fitness”. Announce to your members that you have created a contest and are accepting applications to be the “JonesTown Fitness Hero”. Explain the contest and that everyone who submits a success story will receive something (give away a t-shirt, a free PT evaluation, or a free protein shake from the pro shop) The overall winner will win the grand prize. This can be a free year of membership, a monthly PT tune-up/evaluation, etc.
Have everyone submit a 300 word article on how they have overcome the odds and how your club has helped them. Be sure to remind your members on a regular basis throughout the contest. Email them, mail a letter, call them, place signage in the gym and in the bathrooms, have your front desk remind them and give them a flyer announcing the contest. Run the contest for one month.

As you are collecting submissions for the contest, send a press release to the local paper announcing the event. “Local health club running a Fitness Hero Contest”. Talk about how your facility is full of success stories and over the coming weeks you will be reviewing all applications to select the “JonesTown Fitness Hero”.
Once you select a winner, send another press release to the newspaper, “Local JonesTown citizen wins Hero award”. Of course, give something to everyone who submits an application. Perhaps frame and hang all of the success stories and create a “JonesTown Fitness Wall of Heroes” at your club to let all of your members be inspired. Think of how powerful this would be to show a prospect as you're touring them!
You can also send one of the inspiring success stories each week with your email newsletter. Your members will always look forward to your newsletter if they can read a story about one of their peers and how they overcame the odds to find success as they pursue their fitness and life goals!
